The 2018 FIFA World Cup capability process was a progression of competitions sorted out by the six FIFA confederations to choose 31 of the 32 groups which will play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with Russia qualifying consequently as hosts. Each of the 210 outstanding FIFA part affiliations were qualified to enter the qualifying procedure, and without precedent for World Cup history, all qualified national groups enrolled for the preparatory competition, yet Zimbabwe and Indonesia were excluded

A previous USSR and Russia universal goalkeeper who was chosen for the national squads at the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cups, Cherchesov was delegated mentor in 2016. The previous Dynamo Moscow and Legia Warsaw supervisor drove the hosts at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
